Your Fall Tarot Reading Challenges You to Welcome Change

When we talk about fall, we all love to go on and on about all things cozy. I mean, it’s hard not to, the season of soft knit sweaters, comfort movie rewatches, and thriller binge reading demands to be discussed. But we often overlook another huge aspect of the season: change. We’re all channeling back-to-school energy, committing to the great lock-in, and hunkering down to transform our routines. While change can bring a lot of good into your life, it can also be a little scary when we aren’t sure what to expect. So, to make all the changes fall brings a little bit easier, I went straight to an expert who can let us know what the future may have in store: Hillary Coke, astrologer and tarot expert. Here’s what her reading for The Everygirls revealed.

What is tarot?

Tarot refers to any set of cards used for fortune-telling, but the most popular tarot decks today originated in Italy in the 1400s. The deck has 22 Major Arcana cards, which reveal significant insights about your higher self, and 56 Minor Arcana cards, which offer smaller predictions about your future self. If the details overwhelm you, just know that tarot aims to guide you and offer insight into your future.

How does tarot work?

When a tarot card reader pulls cards for you, they can do several different variations of tarot readings. For this reading, Coke pulled four cards for our readers to predict what their fall might look like from beginning to end. First card: The Hermit

You may be able to tell by the name alone, but The Hermit singles a need for some alone time. Take time during these next few months to step away from the craziness of your everyday life to care for yourself. This could be connecting with nature, journaling, meditating, or going for a leisurely walk. But it’s not just solitude The Hermit encouraged. Coke said that his lantern on the card signals we should all look inward and light our own path. “This introspective time will help you discover what your soul truly craves this season,” Coke said. “If you find yourself alone, embrace the opportunity to learn even more about your true self, deep inside.” So, try new hobbies and experiment with activities out of your comfort zone to learn more about who you are and what you enjoy.

Second card: The Tower

The Tower card tells us big changes are ahead. “There’s nothing we can do to stop it; it shakes the foundation of what we thought was stable,” Coke said. “This can be unsettling, but it’s a reminder that not everything lasts.” Coke reminded us that endings are needed in order for true renewal. The Tower pushes us to get rid of things that are no longer serving us. So, if you notice certain things exiting your life this season, know that The Tower is creating space for new, better things to grow.

Third card: The Empress

With all of that change happening, The Empress is urging us to make sure we’re being adequately nurtured and cared for. “This season is great for harvesting and connecting with loved ones,” Coke said. Especially as the weather gets colder and we want to bundle up indoors, push yourself to continue to reach out to loved ones and spend more time with others, rather than just by yourself. You don’t need to go through hard times alone. Sometimes letting others care for you is a form of self-care in and of itself.

Fourth card: Six of Cups

The Six of Cups may have you feeling extra nostalgic this fall. The falling leaves, sad girl autumn anthems, and rewatching old favorites just have you in your feels. Instead of shying away from this, lean into things that honor these feelings and make you feel safe and happy. Text an old friend to get coffee, try hobbies you loved in childhood, and try activities that spark joy. Coke also said that this card encourages you to pay attention to any resurfaced feelings, emotional patterns, or painful memories. Now is a good time to try to heal them. “Whatever comes up for you is meant to, so pay attention and be open to self-reflection,” Coke said.

What this tarot reading means for your fall

“Altogether, these cards tell you to trust the process,” Coke said. “Let go of anything that must end and honor your inner wisdom.” This won’t happen overnight, so give yourself time to adjust to these changes and grow. If you find yourself struggling to adapt, connect with others. This will allow you to embrace warmth and clarity this fall, emerging with a new sense of purpose by winter.
