Nottingham Forest owner makes classy offer to fans involved in Huntingdon attack | Football

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has offered financial support to the football fans caught up in the Huntingdon train attack.

At least 11 people have been wounded during the mass stabbing attack on a LNER train that was travelling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Saturday evening.

It was initially reported that nine of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, but four have since been discharged and two remain in critical condition in hospital.

The train was stopped in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire before police arrested two men, although one has since been released with no further action. A 32-year-old man is now being considered the only suspect.

Police say there is ‘nothing to suggest’ the attack is terror-related.

Among those on the train were Forest fans travelling home after watching their team’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the City Ground.

On Sunday, Forest released a club statement thanking those who ‘helped prevent even greater harm’.

‘Nottingham Forest Football Club wishes to express its deepest concern and heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by the shocking attack on an LNER train bound for London yesterday evening,’ the statement read.

‘Many of our London-based supporters were travelling home on that train following our match at the City Ground, and our thoughts are very much with everyone caught up in such a distressing incident.

‘The Club is aware that many individuals demonstrated extraordinary bravery which undoubtedly helped prevent even greater harm. The entire Nottingham Forest family stands firmly behind them as they recover from the events of yesterday.’

Forest owner Marinakis personally pledged to help the victims of the attack, adding: ‘Everyone at Nottingham Forest is shocked and deeply saddened by what happened.

‘The courage and selflessness shown by our supporters on that train represents the very best of humanity and the very best of our club’s community.

‘We will make sure any supporter caught up in this incident receives whatever financial support they require to enable them to access the best possible medical care as they recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.’
