I’m Tired of Wearing Jeans—These Are the Alternatives I’m Reaching For Instead
It’s unanimous among my group chat: We’re over jeans. Last week, it was leggings; the week before, sweaters. What that says about us, I’m not sure. But one thing I am sure of? As the resident stylist of the group, it’s up to me to figure out how to overcome this new obstacle. (But I don’t mind, really, since in the words of Carrie Bradshaw, “it’s research.”) As everyone and their mother is looking for bottoms to wear that aren’t of the denim variety, I’ve sought to find jeans alternatives that can seamlessly integrate into day-to-day outfits.
While it’s true that my denim collection has gotten me through some of my worst wardrobe dilemmas to date, I can’t help but notice how much more stylish I feel when I’m wearing something other than jeans. Managing to muster up a compliment-worthy look without my trusty Levi’s at my side (literally) is like acing the ultimate style test. However, that’s not to say that putting together a non-denim outfit is something to fear. These five denim alternatives are comfortable, effortless, and are the answer to all of your “I just can’t put jeans on today” mornings.
5 Jeans Alternatives to Add to Your Winter Wardrobe
1. Corduroy Pants
For years, I avoided anything corduroy for fear that I’d too closely resemble my favorite fictional character, Paddington Bear. Lately, though, I can’t help but feel the pull toward the cozy, nostalgic material. Maybe it’s a cry to feel more connected to my youth, or simply the fact that, according to both my Instagram feed and the websites of all my favorite retailers, corduroy is undeniably back in style.

2. Trousers
One thing I haven’t grown tired of wearing? Trousers. Styling corporate wear outside of the work place—what I once thought would be a fleeting concept—has actually resulted to be a trend with substance. Rightfully so, too, since they’ve proven themselves to be just as comfy as they are chic. Though you can keep them formal with a polished top and trench coat, you can just as easily dress them down with a laid-back hoodie and tee.

3. Midi Skirts
As sweater weather comes to a close and parka season begins, my penchant for wearing skirts usually sees a large decline. But this year more than ever, I’m in the mood to keep my skirts in rotation for just a little while longer. (Namely because colored tights are trending again, and there are so many good ones to choose from.)

4. Knit Pants
If there’s one thing this year has taught me, it’s that anything can be rebranded. But if calling my pajama pants knit pants is wrong, then I don’t want to be right. Though they’re the comfiest non-denim bottoms to make the list, you don’t necessarily need to follow suit with your choice of top. Personally, I’d choose a ribbed turtleneck and an oversized blazer to carry out the look. While it may feel like you’ve just left home in your favorite PJs, it certainly doesn’t have to look like it.

5. Utility Pants
Hands down, my most-worn pants of the season are my trusty Gap cargo pants. Primarily because they’re just as easy to throw on as a pair of jeans, but also because they add a bit of edginess to my softer, more feminine pieces. When styling them, I like to focus on choosing a top that’ll create a bit of juxtaposition, like a brushed cashmere sweater and a structured blazer, or a slim-fitting tee and an oversized bomber.
