I Vowed to Get Dressed More This Year–5 WFH Outfits I’m Wearing on Repeat

Look, I’m not saying I’d trade my couch for a cubicle, but I wouldn’t mind the excuse to get dressed again every now and then. As someone who once fully embraced working from home in an outfit that’s actually just pajamas, I’ve developed a surprising aversion to it over the years.

Now, with many of us required to be back in the office three to five days a week, those at-home days feel different. They’re no longer the default—they’re the in-between. The reset days. And while the novelty of logging on half-dressed has long worn off, the desire to look and feel put together from 9 to 5 hasn’t gone anywhere. Even when we’re working from the kitchen table or sneaking in emails from the couch, there’s still something grounding about getting dressed with intention.

Though I get paid to shop for a living, I’ll admit that finding outfits that strike the right balance—comfortable enough for home, polished enough for a last-minute meeting—has proven harder than expected. After plenty of trial and error, I’ve landed on a handful of easy, repeatable outfits that work just as well for work-from-home days as they do for a coffee run, a quick errand, or an unexpected Zoom call (camera on).

1. An Elevated Sweat Set

It feels like I blinked and suddenly my once-beloved sweat sets were… tired. The good news? Brands have caught on, and today’s versions are far more polished than their peak-COVID predecessors. Think structured knits, tailored silhouettes, and intentional details. The secret to making them feel styled? Accessories. A great pair of earrings, a slick bun, or even a belt bag can instantly elevate the look—yes, even at home.

2. Silk Pants and a Crewneck

Silk pants may not be the obvious alternative to sweatpants, but hear me out. Most come with an elastic waistband and a relaxed fit, making them just as comfortable—and infinitely more refined. Pair them with a quality crewneck and an easy cardigan, and you’ve got an outfit that feels luxe without trying too hard.

3. Double Denim

Nine times out of ten, you’ll find me working in baggy jeans and an oversized button-down. As counterintuitive as it sounds, I actually prefer jeans to sweats these days. They’re just as comfortable, but they make me feel more productive. Add loafers or mules, and suddenly you’re dressed enough for a coffee meeting or a quick errand without changing a thing.

4. Easy Pants and a Cardigan

Most of us aren’t throwing on blazers at home, but an extra layer before a Zoom call can work wonders. That’s where a good cardigan comes in. It’s the ultimate throw-on-and-go piece: cozy, forgiving, and instantly presentable. Look for pants with an elastic waistband to keep the comfort factor high. If you know me, you know I love a good robe, and a cardigan is essentially its socially acceptable cousin.

5. Cargo Pants and a Sweater

Not to make this all about me, but a pair of cargo pants I impulse-bought last year ended up being one of my most-worn pieces. They somehow work with everything and offer a welcome break from jeans when I can’t bring myself to wear denim for the fourth day in a row. Much like silk pants, cargos don’t need much styling—a simple sweater or crewneck tee does the job perfectly.
